Our First Ever Virtual Retreat

Few people alive today have gone through a global shift so all-encompassing as the impact the entire planet in the way the COVID-19 pandemic has hit us. For most people, especially those who live with additional vulnerabilities, the isolation and physical distancing can exact a toll. So many of the things we take for granted are limited or gone.

For those of us in the Generous Space Ministries community, one such annual highlight to impacted is our retreats. Every year, Generous Space organized three such gatherings- one in Ontario, one in BC, and one in Atlantic Canada. In addition to the incredible worship, speakers, and workshops, these retreats are first and foremost gatherings of relational connection and renewal.

This year, due to the pandemic, we have had to cancel our Ontario GS Retreat. However, not to be outdone by a virus, our team leapt to the challenge to create an alternative: our first ever Virtual Generous Space Retreat! While no substitute for the real thing, we are thrill to find ways to connect, strengthen, and even broaden our community in this time.

Next weekend, May 28-31, we will be gathering via Zoom to engage in a host of exciting activities, such as:

  • Keynote Speakers: Our speakers this year include Stel Raven, a queer, trans, two-spirit person who is a therapist, running a private practice specializing in issues relating to queer and trans identities and healing from complex trauma; Matthias Roberts, a therapist and author of, “Beyond Shame" who speaks at the intersections of gender, sexuality, mental health, and theology; and Tonetta Landis-Aina, an ordained pastor in the American Baptist Churches USA and contributor to the development of LGBTQ+ resources for Q Christian Fellowship.

  • Workshops: We will be offering many excellent workshops cover topics such as the queerness of the Holy Spirit; Body Narratives; Intersectional Justice; Songwriting; and many, many more.

  • Social Connection: In addition to this great content, we've also made space for creative times of relational connection through speed friending; games & video chat rooms; an open mic; a dance party; and much more.

There is still time to register for this first-of-its-kind GS event, so head over and sign up today. And be sure to share this with your friends!
